Low‑Carbon Sulphuric Acid — delivered with fossil‑free transport

Boliden’s Low-Carbon Sulphuric Acid is produced as a by-product of metal production, where sulphur is recovered and converted into sulphuric acid using an efficient process with a low-carbon energy mix. The product has a minimal carbon footprint, measuring less than 25 kg of CO₂ eq per ton, well below the EU average for sulphuric acid production.

The cooperation gives access to Low-Carbon Sulphuric Acid delivered with low-carbon transport, supporting customers’ efforts to reduce emissions across the value chain, including Scope 3.

“Ultimately our cradle-to-gate approach offers customers a substantial reduction in carbon footprint compared with conventional sulphuric acid.” says Janne Loven, Sales Manager Sulphuric Acid at Boliden.

Wibax is Bolidens partner for Sulphuric Acid in the Swedish market, responsible for logistics and customer deliveries and is already transporting Low-Carbon Sulphuric Acid using electric ADR trucks from its terminal in Härnösand. Additional electric deliveries are planned to start later in 2026 from the terminals in Gävle and Norrköping, further expanding the distribution capacity.

“By combining Boliden’s Low-Carbon Sulphuric Acid with electric transport, we offer customers a solution where both the product and the delivery contribute to lower emissions. This is a strong example of how collaboration can accelerate the transition to more sustainable chemical supply chains,” says Fredrik Nyberg, COO at Wibax Group.
