Levan Akin to Direct His Next Feature Film

Levan Akin, director of Berlinale Panorama opener "Crossing" and Cannes selection "And Then We Danced", is set to direct his next feature film, "Summer in Heat", an evocative drama exploring desire, tradition, and forbidden emotions. The screenplay is written by award-winning author and playwright Jordan Tannahill and produced by RMV Film in co-production with Film i Väst, Adomeit Film, Eaux Vives Productions and SVT.

Akin most recently garnered international acclaim for "Crossing", the opening film of Berlinale Panorama 2024 and winner of the Teddy Jury Award, as well as "And Then We Danced", which premiered at Cannes in the Directors’ Fortnight and was selected as Sweden’s Academy Awards submission.

The screenplay comes from Canadian author and playwright Jordan Tannahill, whose most recent work, the Off Broadway sensation "Prince Faggot", has been drawing sold out audiences and rave reviews, and whose novel "The Listeners" was recently adapted into a celebrated BBC series.

The film is produced by Mathilde Dedye, a multiple Guldbagge Award–winning producer behind "And Then We Danced" and "Crossing", and Ludvig Andersson, producer of "The Circle" and "ABBA Voyage", for RMV Film, alongside Katja Adomeit, producer of "No Good Men" and "The Square", and Xénia Maingot, producer of "Hélène & Mathieu" and "Ljósbrot".

“Levan Akin is one of the most exciting filmmakers working in Europe today. Summer in Heat is a bold and intimate project that aligns perfectly with Film i Väst’s ambition to co-produce visionary, director-driven films with international reach,” says Kristina Börjeson, Head of Production at Film i Väst.

The film is scheduled to shoot in summer 2026, with a premiere planned for 2027.
