Directly from London to the Norwegian fjords and the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund

In partnership with Norwegian, which offers direct flights from London Gatwick to Ålesund, Destination Ålesund & Sunnmøre, Visit Northwest and Fjord Norway would like to invite a small and exclusive group of journalists from British media to experience the stunning coastal and fjord landscape of the northwestern part of Fjord Norway. We start in the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund, visit both iconic sites and hidden gems in the fjord region, sample local food and drinks, and take part in soft adventure activities. All this – just a couple of hours’ flight from London.

We will explore Ålesund’s colourful architecture before heading for Nordfjord and the picturesque village of Loen, Geiranger’s famous fjord views, the Trollstigen road’s iconic hairpin bends and the mountaineering capital of Åndalsnes. Enjoy stunning autumn colours, local cheeses, cider and juices. It will be a memorable road trip through the northwestern part of Fjord Norway.

Transfer to town for overnight stay (20 min transfer)

Ålesund is famous for its beautiful Art Nouveau architecture, coastal gastronomy and stunning views from Mount Aksla. Here, culture, festivals and local food experiences come together in a unique town between fjords, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. 23/9 Tuesday: Ålesund – Loen

Experience Ålesund – food, activities and attractions like the Art Nouveau Museum, The Atlanterhavsparken marine science center. Or kayaking in the Brosundet canal.

14.00 Drive to Loen by the Nordfjord. 3 hrs drive
Experience the Loen Skylift – and the Hotel Alexandra with spa and outdoor heated pools.

24/9 Wednesday: Loen - Geiranger

Morning in Loen – before continuing towards Geiranger, UNESCO World heritage site.

Activities in Geiranger – walk the waterfall trail – fjord sightseeing and culinary treats.

25/9 Thursday: Geiranger - Åndalsnes

Morning in Geiranger.

Drive the scenic Eagle Road, part of the Norwegian Scenic Route Geiranger – Trollstigen.

Stop in Valldal – the Adventure Valley, also known for delicious cider, applejuice, strawberries and other fruits.

Drive the Trollstigen road – and stop at the viewpoint overlooking the hairpin bends – before descending to the Isterdalen valley and arriving to Åndalsnes.

Åndalsnes is known as Norway’s mountaineering capital, surrounded by dramatic peaks and deep valleys and fjords and rivers. Here, hiking trails, climbing routes and the famous Romsdalseggen Ridge attract adventure seekers from around the world. Åndalsnes is the perfect starting point for exploring Trollstigen, The Romsdal gondola, Raumabanen Railway and the spectacular Romsdal Alps.

Transfer to Ålesund, 1.5 hours.
