Sagastad is a new knowledge- and activity center in Nordfjordeid dedicated to the Viking Age

Press release -

New attraction in Nordfjord: Sagastad is home of the biggest Viking ship ever found

Sagastad, which opened in the beginning of May 2019 and is situated in Nordfjordeid, is a new knowledge- and activity center dedicated to the Viking Age.

The main attraction will be the Myklebust Ship - one of the biggest Viking ships ever constructed. It is a ship with a dramatic history from the early Viking Age. The Myklebust ship is the largest Viking ship whose remains have been found in Norway. It had an estimated length of 30 metres. In autumn 2016, experienced boat builders from Bjørkedalen in Volda started to build the new Myklebust ship modelled on what we think it may have looked like. Even though the ship is seaworthy and able to sail on the fjord, it will be exhibited for large parts of the year at Sagastad.

Visitors of the Sagastad center can learn about the Norwegian Viking roots as well as their history through modern exhibitions and activities.
