Seven unique hotels in Fjord Norway receive MICHELIN Key distinctions
On 8 October 2025, the MICHELIN Guide revealed its latest Global Key distinctions, highlighting what the inspectors consider to be the most outstanding hotels in the Nordic countries for the very first time. The first Nordic hotel selection includes 38 Key hotels in total, with 4 Two-Key and 34 One-Key properties — 11 of them in Norway. Among these are seven remarkable hotels in the Fjord Norway region, two of which have been awarded Two Keys.
Two Keys:
Walaker Hotel - Walaker Hotel – Norway’s oldest family-run hotel, dating back to 1640. Set in the heart of the Sognefjord, in the idyllic village of Solvorn, this historic gem blends art, heritage, and history with warmth and genuine hospitality.
Storfjord Hotel - A handcrafted log hotel outside Ålesund, overlooking the Storfjord. It blends traditional craftsmanship with refined comfort and panoramic fjord views — a place where Norwegian traditions meet modern design in spacious rooms.
One key:
Elva Hotel - Overlooking the river in Voss, this hotel offers a truly memorable stay where nature, design, and local culture merge, with enough activities on offer to satisfy even the most energetic outdoor enthusiasts.
Eilert Smith Hotel - A 12-room boutique hotel in Stavanger. The functionalist warehouse, designed in 1937, was transformed and revitalized in 2019 into a hotel that preserves the soul and heritage of the original building.
Hotel Union Øye - A legendary 19th-century hideaway by the Hjørundfjord near Ålesund, where mountaineers, writers, artists, and royalty have found inspiration, tranquillity, and the good life since 1891.
Hotel Brosundet – A boutique hotel on Ålesund’s waterfront, housed in a former warehouse for local fisheries, offering an authentic and atmospheric stay in the Art Nouveau town. Friendly, calm, and comfortable.
Juvet Landscape Hotel – An architectural gem near Ålesund, famous from the film Ex Machina and the series Succession. Spectacular glass-and-wood cabins in the forest with floor-to-ceiling windows surrounded by pristine wilderness.
“The MICHELIN Keys celebrate hotels with soul and substance – places that tell a story and connect guests to their surroundings,” says Stein Ove Rolland, CEO of Fjord Norway. “Seeing seven hotels in Fjord Norway among the first Nordic selection shows the strength and authenticity of the hospitality scene in our region. Together, these hotels reflect the diversity in Fjord Norway – from timeless heritage and history to modern design and art in spectacular and unique surroundings.”
The MICHELIN Guide features more than 7,000 hotels around the world. According to the Michelin Guide, these are places that meaningfully add to the traveller’s experience, each vetted by the Guide’s hotel experts and judged as excellent across five categories: architecture and interior design; overall personality and character; quality and consistency of service; value for money; and the hotel’s contribution within its locality.
