Flowrox valves in flue gas desulphurization process

Flue gas desulphurization is a continuous process that removes sulphur dioxide from the flue gas before releasing it to the atmosphere. The performance and reliability of used valves and pumps can significantly affect FGD units operation. Wrong choice and cause significant repair costs, short maintenance intervals and poor serviceability.

In Denmark, a coal power plant wanted to improve the performance of the existing valve process conditions in their FGD lime slurry control feeding system. At the time, the customer had a special control valve with a ceramic trim system.  Maintenance interval for this valve was 6 to 9 months. As the process was critical to the customer, they selected Flowrox PVE pinch valve for the lime slurry control. A year later, another Flowrox valve was installed to a similar application.

After taking these valves into use, the customer has experienced more process benefits than they originally expected. The operation of the valves has been reliable and their wear resistance significantly better compared to before. Service interval of the valves was expanded to more than 24 months without causing any disturbance to the lime slurry control.
