Green Lappeenranta - Our Home!

Flowrox’s hometown of Lappeenranta in Finland was once again one of the final candidates in the Earth Hour City Challenge, a year-long competition among cities to promote renewable energy and prepare for climate change. Both the City of Lappeenranta and environmental issues are important to Flowrox. Our industrial solutions are known to be durable and energy efficient. Our products support our customers’ businesses over the long term while helping to preserve the environment at the same time.

For the past four decades in Lappeenranta, Flowrox has been designing and delivering cost-effective flow control solutions for the most challenging conditions on the planet. Our solutions are aimed at improving our customers’ performance and optimizing their processes in order to achieve notable savings in operating, maintenance and service costs, as well as in logistics costs while saving the environment at the same time. Flowrox’s products provide solutions that generate significant savings in overall operating costs and reduce environmental impacts, for example in water treatment plants and the processing of mining water and slurry.

Flowrox’s durable and extended lifetime product solutions reduce environmental impacts in many ways. Air sealed and reliable products ensure that the medium in the pipeline does not escape to the surrounding environment. Our products are designed to be material and energy efficient. The need for spare parts is low and service intervals are long. The shortage of water and electricity is a bigger problem in some areas on the planet than in others. Flowrox’s peristaltic hose pumps in particular save more energy than competing products while reducing water consumption notably.

Looking after our products throughout the entire lifecycle

Flowrox’s own production mainly involves the assembly of valves and pumps, and the use of energy in assembly is relatively low, as are the other environmental impacts. Nevertheless, energy consumption is something to keep an eye on at production facilities, where consumption is minimized both in terms of lighting and heating. In Lappeenranta, Flowrox has teamed up with a local energy partner that provides most of its energy from renewable resources.

Flowrox is also a member of Finnish Packaging Recycling RINKI Ltd., a consortium that is helping to ensure that packaging waste is handled in the right way. Our own production facilities also sort and recycle everything possible. In Lappeenranta we even have our own cardboard shredder that produces recycled package padding for us.

Flowrox looks after its own products through their entire lifecycle. We expect our suppliers to help combat climate change and preserve the environment. We systematically conduct supplier audits that focus on environmental issues. In addition, producers of steel and rubber products are already required by law to have environmental permits.

Logistics play an important role in reducing environmental impacts, so where and how materials are transported is important. Many of Flowrox’s suppliers are Finnish, but in order to reduce emissions and costs generated by logistics, Flowrox also has its own production facilities close to our customers in North America and South Africa. An Environment, Safety, Health and Management System is also being created for Flowrox to help review these issues in more detail.

Proud to be part of the Green City of Lappeenranta

Flowrox is proud of Lappeenranta’s enthusiasm and the actions it is taking to reduce environmental impacts and to create a cleaner and greener environment for all of us. Flowrox is a member of the Lappeenranta Green Energy Showroom (GES), which is promoting this positive trend. GES aims to create more business from sustainable solutions. Lappeenranta is the only city in Finland to be included in the final stage of the WWF’s international Earth Hour City Challenge. The jury that selected the finalists was convinced in particular by Lappeenranta’s aim to become a zero-waste and carbon neutral city by the year 2050.

As a family-owned company, Flowrox wants to remain in Lappeenranta even though we export the majority of our production and we have several subsidiaries around the world. Close cooperation with Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT), an internationally recognized energy and environmental technology expert, has been important for us since the establishment of the university.
