ForSea continues to sail on the route Elsinore-Helsingborg, also during the period 14 March to 13 April

The safety of our passengers and employees is always the number one priority for us at ForSea. For this reason we are following the recommendations and guidance issued by the national public health authorities in Sweden and Denmark. As a result of the Danish government’s decision to close the border between Sweden and Denmark for the period 14 March to 13 April, ForSea wishes to share the following information with regard to the current situation.

ForSea will continue to operate ferries between Helsingborg and Helsingør, also during the period 14 March to 13 April. This decision has been taken in order to meet the needs of passengers who are authorised to travel between Sweden and Denmark, and to facilitate the transportation of goods. It is important to ensure the free movement of goods to and from Sweden and Denmark, and to continue to provide ferry connections for people who live and work on different sides of theSound.

The corona pandemic has created a severe uncertainty in the Sound region in Denmark and Sweden. The ferry route Elsinore-Helsingborg has a high frequency, and many people use the crossing every day – for business and pleasure. The closing of national borders and the consequences of the Corona pandemic affect us, but we are determined to do all that is in our power to maintain ferry connections across the Sound even in these exceptional circumstances. As always, safety is our first concern, and we are therefore following the recommendations of both the Danish and the Swedish authorities. We continue operating our ferries and are firmly committed to safeguarding transport across the Sound also while the borders are closed.

The Helsingør-Helsingborg ferry service is the region’s floating bridge and consists of five ferries: Aurora, Tycho Brahe, Hamlet, Mercandia IV and Mercandia VIII, all of which are environmentally friendly and equipped with catalytic converters. Aurora and Tycho Brahe have both also been converted to battery-powered operation for a total investment cost of approximately SEK 300 million. INEA, an executive agency for innovation and networks within the EU, has allocated approximately SEK 120 million to support the investment. In 2019 ForSea carried 7 million passengers and 1.3 million cars, 440,000 trucks and 16,000 buses and coaches – 20% of the total number of vehicles crossing Öresund. This traffic promotes integration and growth in the Öresund Region and is managed by a staff of 550 dedicated professionals, working every day to ensure that users have access to safe, efficient connections between Sweden and Denmark that make every journey as convenient and comfortable as possible. The connection also helps to create a further 2,000 job opportunities in the region.
