Zelenskyy visits Sweden – Ukraine to receive 16 Swedish JAS 39 Gripen C/D aircraft

Sweden will donate JAS 39 Gripen C/D fighter aircraft to Ukraine. This was announced during a press conference at the Uppland Air Force Wing (F 16) with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson. This support will be of major importance in Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s full-scale invasion.

“JAS Gripen will continue to carry the blue and yellow flag. A strong Ukrainian Air Force strengthens Ukraine, but also contributes to the security of Sweden and Europe. This donation is of great importance in countering Russia’s full-scale invasion.” says Major General Jonas Wikman, Commander of the Swedish Air Force.

The Swedish Armed Forces, together with Saab, will continue training Ukrainian pilots, technicians and other personnel. Sweden will donate JAS 39 Gripen C/D aircraft, advanced ammunition and training with a total value of SEK 22.5 billion.

“The Swedish Armed Forces will train Ukrainian pilots and technicians to help build a more robust air defence capability. Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian air attacks and contribute to stability in our region is strengthened,” says Major General Jonas Wikman, Commander of the Swedish Air Force.

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen C-series is a true multirole fighter aircraft, designed with innovative and efficient technology. Its flexible architecture enables continuous integration of new capabilities and rapid adaptation to evolving operational threats. Built for long-term relevance, Gripen is designed to maintain operational superiority well into the future.
