Furetank nominated for 2025 Biogas Award
Furetank has been nominated for the 2025 Biogas Award, recognizing key contributions to the development of biogas in Sweden.
The awarding organization, BioDriv Öst, works to accelerate the transition to fossil-free transport and promote sustainable regional development. They see Swedish biogas as a cornerstone for a resilient fuel supply and a sustainable, circular society.
The jury’s motivation:
Biogas at sea? Absolutely – a natural choice for the family-owned shipping company Furetank from Donsö in the southern Gothenburg archipelago. They demonstrate how the maritime sector can reach its climate goals long before 2050.
As early as 2015, the company converted a vessel to run on gas, and by 2018 they were already bunkering liquefied biogas (LBG). Gas-powered vessels with strong environmental performance have now secured their place in shipping.
With a clear ambition to drive the climate transition forward, Furetank’s work is making waves even on international waters!
The competition is down to three nominees: Furetank is up against Svensk Biogas, a company which this year opened Sweden’s first facility for carbon capture and the production of fossil-free liquid CO₂ from biogas, and Mycklinge Lantbruk — a high-tech circular farming business where livestock, crop cultivation, and biogas production work together to strengthen resilience and deliver climate benefits.
"“It’s fantastic to see our many years of work recognized — all the effort we’ve put into transitioning to renewable marine propulsion using biomethane. Our fellow nominees also show the wide span of interest in this development, with parallel investments happening across many sectors. I see that as very positive. The fact that there are players both at sea and on land who dare to invest, strengthens the entire renewable ecosystem", said Furetank sustainability strategist Viktoria Höglund.
Past award winners include Toyota Material Handling, Uppsala Municipality, and Martin & Servera. This year's winner will be presented on December 3.
