Interview: Suren Manvelyan's sensational photo series

Born in Armenia, a country proud of its rich cultural heritage, Manvelyan took up photography in his teens. “At the age of sixteen, I was all about astronomy. Together with my friend, we were watching the stars through his telescope. My uncle had a camera and all the accessories needed,” Manvelyan recollects. “So, I got the idea to start photographing what we observed and what interested us so much. In photos, we could see the stars much more in detail than with the naked eye.”

Taking amateur pictures of the stars, the Moon, the planets, the Milky Way... this is how it all started for Manvelyan. But time has proven that only the sky is the limit for this creative and captivating photographer.
