Press release -
Global Wind Service Partners with Skive College for New Wind Electrician Educational Program in Denmark
We are excited to announce the launch of a specialised electrical educational program designed specifically for careers in the wind industry. This educational program has been developed in collaboration Skive College and other leading industry partners, including Ørsted, RWE and Semco Maritime and more.
“I’m thrilled to see this happening - it represents the result of many years of collaboration with Skive College through advisory boards and ongoing dialogue,” said Jakob Tolbøll, Head of Electrical organisation at Global Wind Service.
"Denmark needs young people who are eager to work with green energy – and this is a tangible pathway into the wind energy sector," said Jens Høffner, Development Manager at Skive College. "It’s a classic electrician training program but with a focus on the systems and environments specific to the wind industry – and it opens up entirely new career opportunities."
The new Wind Electrician educational program, set to begin in October 2025, combines a solid foundation in traditional electrician training with specialised skills in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of onshore and offshore wind turbines. Apprentices accepted into the program will also receive GWO certifications, ensuring they meet the safety and technical standards of the wind industry.
A New Opportunity for Young Talent
The Wind Electrician program is designed for young adults with a passion for technology, climate solutions, and green energy. It offers an attractive career path, with apprentices earning a salary throughout the program in accordance with collective agreements. High school graduates looking for a hands-on, practical career in a growing industry are strongly encouraged to apply.
As part of the program, foundational electrical training will take place at Skive College, with industry-specific specialisation occurring during apprenticeships at partner companies, including GWS. Apprentices will receive practical training in real-world operations, preparing them to take on critical roles in the industry.
Addressing the Growing Workforce Demand
GWS recognise the urgent need for skilled workers in the rapidly expanding wind industry, and has long been dedicated to workforce development, taking responsibility for growing the talent pipeline needed to meet industry demands. This new program is a key step in addressing this challenge, offering young people a clear pathway into the industry.
GWS has invested heavily in training through our own initiatives. Our dedicated training academy in Poland plays a critical role in onboarding and upskilling workers, ensuring they are equipped with the technical expertise and safety certifications necessary to succeed. In addition to our new partnership with Skive College, GWS offer a dedicated entry program designed for experienced mechanics, electricians, and similar professionals looking to transition into the wind industry.
"At Global Wind Service, we believe that meeting the growing demand for wind energy requires a collective effort. Building a skilled workforce is a shared responsibility across the entire industry. This new training program, combined with our entry program and training academy in Poland, represents just one step toward addressing the challenge. However, we need greater collaboration across the industry to develop talent and secure the skilled workforce essential for its future," said Michael Høj Olsen, CEO at Global Wind Service.
