An Early Signal from Germany’s EV Boom
Germany’s EV market posted its strongest half year to date. Battery-electric cars accounted for 24.8% of all new passenger car registrations in H1 2026, up from 18.4% last year. By the end of July, that meant roughly 446,000 new EVs on the road – a 50.2% increase from the same period in 2025.
This isn’t a premium or early-adopter story anymore. VW, Skoda, and BMW took the top three sales spots, comfortably ahead of Tesla in fourth. The main driver? A reintroduced national incentive scheme launched earlier this year, offering buyers between €3,000 and €6,000 per car depending on income, backed by a €3bn budget.
It’s still too early to say exactly how this will translate into Greenman Energy’s numbers – newly purchased cars take time to settle into regular charging habits, so the real impact would be expected to show up later in 2026, once this wave of new owners has been on the road for a while. That said, the signs are encouraging. Comparing June to August year-on-year, charges per charging point per day rose from c.1.21 to 1.35 - an 11.5% increase, while revenue per charging point over that same period, rose from c.€2,651 to €2,833.
The numbers involved are still small and this is one data point, not yet a trend, but if Germany’s EV momentum continues, Greenman Energy’s network is in a solid position to catch that tailwind as more cars hit the road and start looking for charging points.
