LIVE TODAY!

Hack for Earth Foundation is together with South Africa-based Empire Partner Foundation opening a global health hackathon today, with 400 developers and creative entrepreneurs from 22 countries to find scalable healthcare solutions for South Africa and beyond.

Dr. Jacob Rosenholm, CEO of Swedish medical startup Thorndyke & Ball,  will be holding the keynote adress at the Opening Ceremony, with the theme "Global challenges and opportunities in a post-Covid world".

During the hackathon Dr. Rosenholm will be available IRL at the Empire Partner Foundation Tech Hub as an expert mentor in medicine, supporting the hacker teams in their quest to find new innovative solutions to the four identified challenges:

1. Menstrual health.
How do we use tech to address the stigma of menstruation and period poverty in both developing and rural communities in South Africa?

2. Major incident healthcare preparedness.
How can we improve healthcare system preparedness for future major incidents like the corona pandemic?

3. Health awareness in rural areas.
How do we to raise awareness about health (female health, nutrition, vaccination and more) in rural areas?

4. Delivery of affordable healthcare.
How can a country's health care system deliver medicine and healthcare in a locally affordable context, to provide healthcare for more people?

- The last few years have brutally shown us that our world's health challenges have never been more dire, and we are in acute need for solutions with a global ambition and scale. Time is of the essence too, that is why I'm very excited to be joining this 48 hour hackathon and meet the hacker teams IRL in South Africa, says Dr. Rosenholm.

The Swedish Ambassador to South Africa, H.E. Håkan Juholt, will also be speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the global Health hackathon along with Hack for Earth Foundation's Secretary General Ann Molin.
