Technical issues on Havila Pollux

On Monday morning, Havila Pollux experienced technical problems with an electric motor, which means that the ship must cancel its ongoing voyage.

Havila Pollux was en route to Trondheim on the northbound route on Monday morning when the ship encountered a technical issue in one the electric motor of starboard azipod. The issue needs to be rectified, and the electric motor needs to be replaced. Therefore, Havila Pollux cannot continue its northbound voyage at the moment.

“As it is not possible for us to operate the ship safely and responsibly, there are no other alternatives than to take Havila Pollux out of service until we have resolved the issue with the electric motor," said CEO Bent Martini.

“Compromising safety is not an option, and it is our top priority. We will now do our utmost to find alternative solutions for our passengers on board and naturally regret that they experience an interruption in their journey”.

The incident itself unfolded undramatic for the passengers on board, and Havila Pollux safely sailed to dock in Trondheim under its own power.

Havila Voyagbes will provide further information on the matter when there is something new to report and will contact affected passengers to find alternative solutions.

The Havila Voyages is a Norwegian shipping company that sails the classic coastal voyage between Bergen and Kirkenes with the Norwegian coast's most environmentally friendly ships.

The four new ships are loaded with the world's largest battery pack, and can sail for four hours without noise or emissions through vulnerable fjords. The batteries are charged with clean hydropower at shore, and when the batteries are low we switch to natural gas which cuts CO2 by around 25 %.

The hull is specially designed for maximum energy efficiency, and excess heat from cooling water and sea used for heating on board. On the menu are locally made dishes from local producers, and all unnecessary plastic is avoided. We are already exceeding the authorities' requirements for cutting emission, and we have set sail with zero emissions as the future target.

The Havila Voyages is part of the Havila Group that dates back to the 1950s. It all started when the founder, Per Sævik, bought his first fishing boat in his teens. From fishing and herring fishing, Havila is now a group operating in shipping technology, offshore, transport and tourism.
