Gävle students won Swedish Championships in Social Work

All competitors were given the same assignment, and, in the finals, they competed with teams from the programmes at Umeå University and Södertörn University.

High-quality programme in social work at Gävle

The two students say that the best thing about the competition was that they learned so much and that they now feel confident that the programme in social work at Gävle is of high quality and that they have acquired broad knowledge in the field.

“It feels very rewarding to have gained this broad knowledge. I have tested some temporary jobs and I think that working with people who need help or giving support to children and young people and similar services suit me best,” Jovana Nordström says.

“I feel confident that I have gained the knowledge I need for the future, and the fact that we won is just a bonus,” says Linnea Björkqvist, who also plans to work in the social services.

In the championships arranged by The Union for Professionals SSR, students in social work programmes from all of Sweden compete. This year, the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare provided the query: How can the social services better cater to the needs of children and young people when they are placed in residential care homes?
