Understanding the Different Types and Its Functions

Gas boiler is basically a boiler which utilizes LPG or natural gas to heat water for domestic purposes. Widely used in countries with colder climates, these boilers are available in different varieties and prices. It is considered to be one of the most efficient and effective ways to obtain uninterrupted flow of hot water.

The Two Forms of Gas Used

The fuels used in these boilers are of two forms, mainly LPG and Natural gas. The basic differences between these two forms of fuels are discussed below.

LPG: LPG is the fuel which is available in cylinders and used mainly for cooking purposes. LPG cylinders are used when there is limited availability of natural fuel.

Natural gas: Today most of the homes have fuel connection pipes installed in them which can be used for heating water. One of the greatest advantages of this form of fuel is its uninterrupted supply. Though it is quite expensive, it is considered to be an efficient way to heat water for various purposes.

Gas Boiler- Various Types

There are basically five types of boilers which are fueled by gas which are as follows.

The regular boiler: This variety of gas boiler is the conventional type of boiler with a hot water cylinder and a boiler which is stored separately. It occupies a large amount of space and compared to the modern boilers, it is considered to be less- efficient. The traditional boilers are ideal in homes which have more than two bathrooms. It is highly suitable in areas where the pressure of water is quite low.

The combi-boiler: Another modern variety of gas boiler is the combi boiler which supplies hot water on demand. It has no storage capacity and so heated water cannot be stored for future use. This variety of boiler is less expensive as it does not heat water continuously. Heated water is supplied only on demand. However, it is available in compact sizes and can be installed anywhere in your home.

The combi-boilers are available in different varieties. These boilers are ideal in homes with a small family. Heated water can be used only one at a time. Hot water cannot be used for bathing and washing simultaneously.

The heat-only boilers: Another variety of gas boiler includes the heat-only boiler which is open- vented. It heats water and stores it in a storage tank. It is quite ideal for homes with a large number of people.

The sealed heat-only boilers: One of the most compact varieties of boilers includes the sealed system. This particular variety of boiler is devoid of many components and is more compact in size. It includes a hot water cylinder, an expansion vessel and a circulation pump placed inside the boiler.

Another variety of boiler includes the system boiler which is quite similar to the combination boiler. However, it is easy to install these boilers as it is compact in size and fits a smaller home. The system boiler is also devoid of a storage tank and supplies hot water instantaneously.
