Kommuninvest wins the Environmental Objectives Award 2021

Kommuninvest wins the Environmental Objectives Award 2021 in the category "Courage and pace". This was announced on Thursday morning in an award ceremony at the Miljömålsdagarna conference.

The award was instituted by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The purpose is to reward and draw attention to ambitious and successful sustainability work which contributes to achieving Sweden's environmental objectives. To be a contender in the "Courage and pace" category, one should have attained a major or rapid change and tested new ways of reaching the environmental objectives.

Kommuninvest received the award for its contribution to the environmental objective Reduced Climate Impact. The other nominees in that category were Ragn-Sells/EasyMining and VA Syd.

Kommuninvest, the largest lender to the municipal sector, has since the inception in 2015 established a successful programme for green financing. According to the latest Green Bonds Impact Report, which was published in March, SEK 73 billion had at the turn of the year been committed to a total of 416 green investment projects. The green share of the total loan portfolio was just under 12 per cent.

– This is a great day for Kommuninvest. We are truly honored. The award is a fantastic recognition of the progress of the green financing programme that we have built up over the last 5-6 years. At the same time, I want to emphasize that the key to success is the impressive sustainability work which day by day is being driven forward in the municipalities and regions. The momentum is incredible. What we have done is really just to create the green financing opportunities. The municipal sector is a strong and important engine for making the green transition possible, says Tomas Werngren, CEO of Kommuninvest.
