From LEGO robots to life‑saving solutions

Laerdal recently welcomed the First LEGO League team Tananger All‑Starz for a visit focused on learning, curiosity and inspiration on both sides.

The team, Franklin, Elliot, Mina, Sam and Alfred, together with their coaches Charlotte Søyland and Kristian Fellowes Haukelid from Storevarden School, brought great energy, thoughtful questions and a strong interest in how ideas are turned into real solutions.

Tananger All‑Starz have already achieved impressive results, winning both the Norwegian and Nordic First LEGO League competitions with their robot and gamification project. In June, they will travel to Atlanta, USA, to compete against 60–70 teams from around the world. Laerdal is proud to support parts of the team’s journey as a sponsor, and sees the collaboration as a valuable way of sharing how teamwork, curiosity and innovation are put into practice at Laerdal.

Much of the conversation during the visit centred on a shared belief, that strong teams are built by welcoming different perspectives, and by using constructive disagreement to improve results.

Mette Stavland, who introduced the team to how Laerdal works as a high‑performing team, highlighted the importance of trust, openness and shared goals.

“High‑performing teams are not about always agreeing, but about feeling safe to speak up, challenge ideas and commit to decisions together. It was inspiring to see how naturally the team works this way.”

Several Laerdal colleagues also gave the team hands‑on insight into CPR training, and shared how products such as the Laerdal Advanced Airway Solution, CPR gamification tools and RQI are designed and developed through user feedback, testing and iteration.

As part of the visit, Tananger All‑Starz also presented their project at Laerdal’s Lifesaver Solutions share‑out, where they demonstrated their game, their coding work and their LEGO robot.

Throughout the visit, the team highlighted the importance of psychological safety, feeling safe to share ideas, learn from mistakes and enjoy working together. A reminder that curiosity, trust and collaboration are key drivers of innovation, at any age.
