Laerdal joins global momentum as GFF secures major funding for maternal and newborn care

As the Global Financing Facility (GFF) launches its new investment round with over USD 800 million in donor commitments, Laerdal strengthens its long‑standing partnership by supporting the scale‑up of the Safer Births Bundle of Care (SBBC) to 10 countries. The new commitments mark a decisive step toward accelerating reductions in maternal and newborn deaths through proven, cost‑effective solutions embedded in stronger national health systems.

“Our partnership with the GFF has helped bring the Safer Births Bundle of Care to life — a proven, data‑driven approach that has demonstrated clear results,” said Tore Lærdal, Founder of Laerdal Global Health. “By committing USD 15 million from the Laerdal Scale‑Up Fund, we aim to help scale this approach to more countries and reach many more women and newborns with lifesaving care.”

The global momentum is reinforced by Norway’s contribution of NOK 600 million (approx 64 MUSD) to the GFF, announced during the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings. At a time of declining global aid, Norway’s pledge underscores continued leadership in global health and a shared commitment to strengthening health systems and protecting the rights and lives of women, children, and adolescents.

Through the Laerdal Scale‑Up Fund, Laerdal’s investment will support the expansion of SBBC as part of a new GFF innovation challenge, helping catalyze further partner funding and accelerate impact where the burden of maternal and newborn mortality remains highest.
