Set to Deliver 2,500 Times – Laerdal Medical Tests High-Tech Birth Simulator

2,500 Births for One – Laerdal Medical Trials the Birth Simulator of the Future

This summer, Laerdal Medical will conduct 2,500 simulated births using its latest birth simulator, MamaAnne. While the simulator has already been tested for commercial release, this summer’s testing is part of ongoing validation to ensure the technology, anatomy, and user experience remain at the highest level over time.

MamaAnne is designed to make obstetric training more realistic, accessible, and effective – helping reduce errors and improve responses in critical situations. The simulator supports training for everything from normal deliveries to serious complications such as shoulder dystocia, umbilical cord prolapse, and postpartum hemorrhage.

With an automated birthing mechanism, realistic tissue feel, and support for multiple birthing positions, MamaAnne is built to meet the needs of healthcare professionals worldwide. Earlier this year, she was awarded the iF Design Award 2025 for outstanding functionality and user-centered design.

“When MamaAnne performs well under demanding conditions, it means better training experiences – and ultimately, safer births for both mother and child,” says Maria Gramstad, who is leading the testing at Laerdal Medical.

The simulator is designed for team-based training and can be combined with baby mannequins, bleeding modules, heart rate monitoring, and connected software for simulation and evaluation. The current testing phase is taking place at Laerdal’s facilities in Stavanger throughout summer 2025.

MamaAnne Key Features:

  • Full-body realism, variable birth progression, and automated delivery system
  • Training for both normal and emergency birth scenarios
  • Modular design – includes bleeding, umbilical cord, placenta, and fetal heart sounds
  • Supports real team training and use of medical equipment
  • Part of Laerdal’s broader simulation solutions for life-saving education
