LIGHT IN MOTION
vr more – an Organic Interior Concept
By redesigning its main branch in Heide, VR Bank Westküste sets a clear statement and positions itself for the future of modern banking. Under the brand vr more, the bank introduces a branch concept that consciously breaks away from traditional structures. At its core are openness, flexibility and a hybrid consulting model that blends digital services with personal interaction.
Light plays a central role in this concept: it structures the space, supports the different consulting zones and creates an atmosphere of ease and clarity. On behalf of the bank, LTS Licht & Leuchten GmbH developed a lighting concept in close collaboration with interior architect Astrid Weißenfeld (ebene03.büro für räume). The result is a holistic lighting solution that harmonises seamlessly with the interior design and sets new standards in both functionality and aesthetics.

“Our customers now experience a place for exchange – not just for financial services, but for genuine human encounters.”
- Annett Resow, Head of Real Estate and Facility Management, VR Bank Westküste.
Open Space Concepts for a New Consulting Culture
The vr more concept deliberately breaks away from conventional bank architecture and instead focuses on open-plan areas, flexible meeting points and contemporary retreats for private consultations. Traditional corridors lined with enclosed offices are a thing of the past. Instead, visitors are guided through the space by smooth transitions and softly defined zones of light.
- “Rather than long corridors and closed offices, our new layout features open communication areas – from cosy lounge zones to the central welcome bar, which feels more like a café than a traditional bank,” adds Annett Resow.
All vr more branches follow a consistent design language that strengthens brand identity and creates a high level of recognition. Regardless of location, customers experience the same contemporary design and can immediately tell they are in a forward-looking consulting space of VR Bank Westküste. The lighting concept reinforces the architectural vision of transparency and approachability. With this bold new approach, vr more is not just an evolution of the bank branch – it represents a model for the future of banking.
A Fusion of Form, Colour, and Light
The redesign of vr more in Heide clearly bears the signature of Hamburg-based interior architect Astrid Weißenfeld. With her architecture practice ebene03.büro für räume and her extensive experience in the banking sector, she has created a spatial concept that stands out for its soft colour palette, organic forms and carefully curated lighting design.
Light in Flow – Challenges and Precision
Organic Architecture Meets Lighting Precision
After an intensive planning phase, VR Bank Westküste consistently aligned the space with its new corporate identity. The result is an environment that combines functionality with a clear appeal to a younger, digitally savvy target group. Interior architect Astrid Weißenfeld played a key role in shaping the design concept – characterised by flowing transitions, rounded forms and an open spatial layout.
Light as a Design Element
In the corridor area of the vr more branch in Heide, LTS uses the Lichtkanal Curved to deliberately pick up the arc of the building’s curved glass wall and make the spatial dynamics perceptible. The flexible system adapts precisely to curved architectural lines and, in Heide, follows the contours of the glass wall seamlessly.

“The light mirrors the shape. It follows the space while remaining discreetly in the background. In doing so, it supports the organic spatial effect and blends harmoniously into the architectural concept.”
— Thorsten Beyrau, LTS Area Sales Manager and Project Lead for vr more
Specially developed curve collimators ensure that the light is distributed absolutely evenly and glare-free, even along tight radii. This subtle yet effective use of light strengthens the architectural design language.
By integrating LTS Lichtkanäle in this targeted way, an atmosphere is created that offers both orientation and a calming spatial presence. The soft transitions between light and architecture dissolve the boundaries of a conventional bank. Instead, the space becomes a setting for open dialogue and personal encounters. The light guides the eye without overpowering – playing a central role in redefining the bank as a place for communication and connection.
Tailored Lighting Solutions from LTS
The implementation of the vr more concept in Heide posed specific challenges for lighting design, particularly in the back office area. Due to the limited ceiling height, a conventional recessed installation of the Lichtkanal was not an option. In collaboration with interior architect Astrid Weißenfeld, the Customer Solutions department at LTS Licht & Leuchten GmbH developed a customised special solution:
Despite the reduced installation depth, the system meets all technical lighting requirements. The integrated nanoOptix technology ensures uniform, glare-free illumination with a UGR value of ≤19 – making it ideal for ergonomic workstation lighting.
This bespoke solution clearly demonstrates how technical precision, design sensitivity and custom manufacturing expertise come together at LTS to create a harmonious fusion of light and architecture.
Architectural Vision
Weißenfeld’s approach proves successful: her design is defined by the use of rounded and organic forms that give the space a flowing, inviting dynamic. The soft colour palette in shades of rose and ochre creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere – redefining the traditional image of a bank branch.
Shaping Space with Light – Atmosphere with Identity
Crafted Lighting Landscapes for People and Brand
The lighting concept is an integral part of the new vr more brand identity. It gently guides visitors through the space, and the soft transitions between light and shadow create spatial depth that invites people to linger. The branch has shed its traditional rigidity and sterility – it has become a place for dialogue, where light forms the invisible foundation of a welcoming atmosphere.
A recent customer survey confirms the success of the concept: 94% of respondents rated the new design positively, and 98% of employees appreciate the open communication culture.

“Our customers want a modern bank that offers digital solutions without losing the personal connection. Design plays a central role here!
Niels Reimer, Head of the vr more branches in Albersdorf, Heide and Viöl
Light as a Key Element in Spatial Composition
A Holistic Spatial Concept
The lighting concept developed by VR Bank Westküste eG illustrates how light, as a design element, does more than just illuminate – it enhances and enriches the space. The architectural concept places both customer and employee needs at its heart, ensuring a balanced experience for all users.
