Lighting renovation at Meckatzer Löwenbräu
Contemporary lighting for living tradition
Sustainable lighting refurbishment at
Meckatzer Löwenbräu in Heimenkirch
The administration building of Meckatzer Löwenbräu in Heimenkirch, opened in 2011, exemplifies precise architecture and a strong sense of regional identity. Since the very beginning, the traditional brewery has relied on lighting solutions from LTS Licht & Leuchten GmbH. The bespoke lighting concepts from Tettnang not only support the functional quality of the interior spaces but also highlight the architectural sophistication of the building. This results in a working environment where brand values become tangible – brought to life by the lighting expertise of LTS.
In 2024, this long-standing partnership continued with a forward-looking renovation of the lighting system. The focus was not only on technical upgrades, but also on reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
Architecture with radiance
The main building combines representative design and functionality in a single structure, featuring a spacious two-storey entrance hall and light-flooded corridors. The foyer impresses with its sweeping lines and generous ceiling height, serving as a central hub for both visitors and employees. It is the communicative heart of the brewery – and places the highest demands on aesthetics, technical performance and atmospheric quality. The need for lighting renovation
More than a decade after the building opened, it was necessary to bring the existing lighting up to modern standards. The original fluorescent technology not only caused high operating costs but also no longer complied with current EU energy efficiency regulations. Renovating the lighting was therefore a logical step towards greater sustainability, efficiency and future viability.
Sustainable technology for tomorrow
As part of the renovation, Meckatzer opted for state-of-the-art LED solutions from LTS. These reduce energy consumption by up to 80 per cent, lower maintenance costs and significantly improve the quality of light throughout the building. Thanks to intelligent planning and precisely tailored retrofitting, the modernisation could be carried out during ongoing operations – without disruptions for staff or visitors. This project sets new standards for future-proof administrative architecture.
The benefits of lighting renovation with LTS
-
Up to 80% energy savings
Switching to modern LED technology significantly reduces energy consumption – saving costs, easing the environmental impact and paying off quickly. -
Better light for better work
The new luminaires provide uniform, glare-free light that enhances workplaces, supports concentration and makes spaces feel bright and professional. -
Technologically up to date
LTS uses the latest generation of LED technology – durable, efficient and smartly controllable. A forward-looking investment. -
A clear statement of sustainability
The renovation supports Meckatzer’s climate strategy and aligns perfectly with the company’s membership in the “Climate-Neutral Allgäu 2030” initiative. It makes ecological responsibility visible. -
Less maintenance, more reliability
LEDs last significantly longer than conventional light sources and need to be replaced less frequently. This reduces maintenance effort – a real advantage in everyday operations. -
Tailored lighting solutions
Whether corridor, office or meeting room – all luminaires were precisely adapted to the structural conditions. This preserves the aesthetic quality and keeps the refurbishment almost invisible. -
Expert support from start to finish
LTS provides 360° service: personal consultation, planning, product selection and implementation support – all from a single source.
A quick and clean renovation with
LTS Licht & Leuchten GmbH
The lighting modernisation in the administration building of Meckatzer Löwenbräu required a solution that would not disrupt daily operations while preserving the architectural aesthetics.
LTS developed a tailored retrofit concept replacing over 145 light points with state-of-the-art LED technology. What made this project unique: The entire refurbishment was carried out during ongoing brewery operations.
The existing housings of the round PL recessed luminaires could be fully retained. Instead of a complete replacement, the luminaires were disassembled and only the lighting components were upgraded to modern LED technology – efficiently, resource-consciously and sustainably.
-
“The prerequisite for this approach is that the existing luminaire is in technically flawless condition and does not show any safety-relevant defects – especially when new, sensitive electronic components are being integrated.”
Dominik Roth, LTS Sales Manager and Project Lead for the lighting renovation at Meckatzer Löwenbräu
This was easily achieved at Meckatzer: all luminaires to be refurbished were high-quality products from LTS Licht & Leuchten GmbH – durable and solidly built, they offered the ideal foundation for an efficient LED upgrade.
A reliable solution with high practical suitability
This approach enabled a fast, clean and efficient retrofit without interrupting operations. No dismantling, no dust, no noise and no structural work – just low-tool, low-noise installation during daily business without the need for follow-up construction or painting. For electrical installers, this means a dependable solution with excellent practical suitability.
The following LTS products were used:
-
LED retrofit kits for PL trimless luminaires:
These luminaires were retained by removing their internal components. Only the base plate with LED module and DALI converter was replaced. Used in offices and corridors.
The PL recessed luminaire is a representative luminaire series with clear, circular geometric shapes – available in various light field sizes. Its distinctive design, combined with a homogeneous light field, makes it ideal for sophisticated architectural lighting design. The different sizes can be flexibly combined as surface-mounted, recessed or pendant versions or integrated into boxed ceiling openings. Matching round wall luminaires complete the series.
- CSA recessed spotlight: High-performance recessed spotlight with a precise light pattern, particularly for corridor areas.
- ILVY downlight: Round downlights with neutral white light colour, for instance in meeting rooms.
- Scene 6 recressed spotlight: A trimless recessed spotlight – ideal for WCs and ancillary rooms.
All components were installed into the existing ceiling cut-outs, which required a high level of craftsmanship, especially for the trimless models. However, an in-house electrician at Meckatzer was able to carry out the entire installation, further proving the practical and user-friendly concept of LTS.
Precision and retained structure
The greatest challenge lay in integrating LED technology into the existing trimless-mounted housings. A complete replacement would have required significant structural work. Instead, a solution was implemented that allowed the original housings to remain in the ceiling while new LED modules were installed with precision. Afterwards, the cleaned original covers could be reattached without any issues.
The PLL luminaires, in particular, demonstrated just how flexibly modern refurbishment components from LTS can be used: No removal of housings, no dirt – yet a lighting quality that meets the latest standards in glare control, colour rendering and energy efficiency.
Moreover, DALI compatibility of all components ensures future-proof integration into intelligent building systems and supports Meckatzer Löwenbräu’s sustainability goals of climate-friendly operations.
Atmosphere and efficiency in harmony
The newly installed PL luminaires offer a homogeneous light pattern, excellent colour rendering and impressive energy savings of up to 80%. The lighting quality has been significantly enhanced – even, flicker-free and glare-reduced. With this retrofit, Meckatzer not only improved operational efficiency but also sent a clear message in favour of sustainable corporate management.
