Endovascular Neurosurgery on Real Patients in a Simulated Environment

Mentice, world leader in medical cardiovascular and endovascular simulation, today announced the release of the world’s first solution to allow physicians to import medical image data from cerebral anatomies of real patients into a simulated environment for the purpose of hands-on preparation and training.

VIST® Case-It enables users of the Mentice VIST® line of medical simulators to rapidly create virtual cases from patient specific data. Steps of the operation can then be practised in a realistic and completely safe environment. The VIST® Case-It technology holds many promises for the future of medical education and patient safety:

·  Hospitals can build their own unlimited library of virtual patient cases

·  Complex cases can be easily shared with colleagues and students

·  Aneurysms, lesions, blood clots and other pathologies can be added for training purposes

Mentice has already released VIST® Case-It for its Endovascular Aortic Repair (EVAR) training module, and as part of the new release VIST® Case-It support will be extended to the following three modules:

  • Acute Stroke Intervention
  • Neuro Intervention
  • Carotid Intervention

Mentice plans to continue adding the game-changing VIST® Case-It technology to its broad range of endovascular training modules, allowing users to import patient specific anatomies from their own medical practice and adapt the simulated cases to fit specific training needs.

Göran Malmberg, CEO of Mentice, comments: "Stroke is potentially devastating to patients and a huge burden to society. It is also an area where endovascular treatment methods have a truly unique potential to improve outcomes. Our new releases of Case-It for these anatomies offer previously unimaginable opportunities for practicing physicians to capture important learning experiences from real patient data and give the possibility to perfect treatment techniques on a simulator."
