UPDATE: Activists unchain themselves from Sodexo headquarters after progress on company’s cage-free commitment

Paris, France - After four hours chained to Sodexo’s headquarters in Paris, France, activists with Animal Equality have ended their protest. Sodexo has officially agreed to meet within the next month to discuss its global animal welfare policies, including in India.

“We are pausing further actions in good faith while these discussions take place, and we expect Sodexo to come prepared with a serious global plan to end cages for hens,” shares Animal Equality’s President Sharon Nunez in a statement.

Nearly 30 protestors joined the action from France and other European countries. In the European Union, conventional “battery cages” used to confine hens are banned, but Sodexo continues to source eggs produced through these methods elsewhere. The company previously promised to end this practice globally by 2025, but missed its own deadline.

Animal Equality is calling on Sodexo to publicly disclose a concrete timeline for fulfilling its cage-free egg commitment and to prioritize progress in the countries where it is furthest behind.
