Jennifer Fernick | NCC Group
Head of Research NA

Jennifer Fernick is a computer science researcher, cybersecurity leader, technical advisor, and speaker with deep technical expertise in cryptography, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. She is currently Head of Research & Engineering at NCC Group, a global information assurance firm, and is a National Security Institute Visiting Technologist Fellow at George Mason University. Most recently, she was Director, Information Security at a major global financial institution. She has spent nearly five years as a PhD researcher at the University of Waterloo, as a member of the Institute for Quantum Computing and the Centre for Applied Cryptographic Research. Jennifer was a part of the 2018 cohort of the Berkman Assembly at Harvard University and MIT Media Lab, focussing on Artificial Intelligence & its Governance. Her career has included designing and building satellite systems, working on bleeding edge cryptography research, building secure systems at massive scale, running incident response events for core pieces of critical infrastructure, and leading the development of global technology standards. She holds a Master of Engineering degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and an Honours Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence from the University of Toronto. Jennifer spent multiple years as CFP Chair of Crypto & Privacy Village at DEF CON, serves or has served on the review boards of USENIX Workshop on Cyber Security Experimentation & Test, USENIX Enigma, NeurIPS Workshop on A.I. for Social Good, NeurIPS Workshop on Machine Learning for Physical Sciences, and IEICE Transactions Japan, and regularly speaks at major technology conferences such as RSA, CFI-CIRT, ECML, DEF CON, O'Reilly AI, and Blackhat.

Matt Lewis | NCC Group

Matt is an experienced Technical Research Director. His specialisms include general security consultancy, scenario-based penetration testing, vulnerability research and development of security testing tools. He has almost 20 years of IT security experience spanning Defence, Intelligence, Commercial and Big 4.

His penetration testing, research and consultancy experience spans multiple technologies across all sectors and many FTSE 100 and Forbes 2000 companies, with strong experience in facilitating security assurance within the Government sector. He is a public speaker with global recognition of knowledge and expertise in biometric security, and has presented at many international conferences and seminars on all manner of security-related topics.

Ian Robertson | NCC Group
Senior Vice President

Ian Robertson (Sr. Vice President) is a seasoned technology executive, strategist, and cultivator of the next generation of industry professionals. He has spent over two decades building products and teams that advance the state of the art in security, privacy, and human-computer interaction. Ian held leadership positions at BlackBerry, Sony and Motorola (under Google) before joining NCC Group in 2016 to found Canadian operations and Global Specialist Practices. Pragmatic and outcome-focused, Ian is regularly invited to speak at major technology events, serve on panels, and to participate in advisory boards. His interests include mobile and embedded systems, affective computing, sensor-driven experiences, and holistic security engineering.
