Building a secure future for smart cities

The individual touch points that make up a smart city  form a significant part of our daily lives.

All of its systems and applications – whether  it’s  street lighting, parking sensors or waste management –  bring both opportunities and risks, and mapping these out  will be crucial in the continued  roll out of smart city projects.

But it can be difficult to know where to start, which questions to ask, and how and when security testing should be carried out.

With this in mind, we’ve pooled our expertise to present 'A Blueprint for Secure Smart Cities’, exploring why security should be built into every individual component of a smart city from the start, and the importance of town planners being transparent about privacy and safety.

But it isn’t just the responsibility of planners and developers of smart cities –  end-system and device manufacturers along with the  third-party integrators and operators who will build, deploy and operate smart city applications, need to play their part as well in embedding secure by design.

Our latest whitepaper, ‘A Blueprint for Secure Smart Cities’ delves into what security by design means and how it can act as an enabler, the testing that should be carried out to ensure the integrity of smart city infrastructure and applications, as well as the governance and policies that should be drawn up to support the  testing of the IoT components used across a smart city.

The capabilities of smart cities are endless, and the future will be bright and exciting if security is embedded from the outset.
