The Next Book Report: Mental health, prepping and sleep stories are trending in the world of books

The book app Nextory continuously analyzes exciting data from its users and has now, for the first time, compiled “The Next Book Report”. A Nordic trend and insight report that maps unique data from readers and listeners in the Nextory app during the first quarter of the year.

In the world of books, the first quarter of 2022 has been characterized by a focus on mental health, prepping for crisis situations, and stories that make you fall asleep. This is revealed in the new trend report “The Next Book Report”, which is also filled with insights and data from Nextory's Nordic markets; Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark.

– It's amazing that we have access to all this information, so that we're able to see what actually engages readers and listeners. The consumption of popular culture, and especially the book consumption, really reflects the world we live in. Nextory's vision is to increase reading and enrich people's lives with great stories. Therefore, we’re pleased that our users both turn to the books to gain knowledge and to escape reality for a while, says Gustav Sköld, COO at Nextory.

Yoga and meditation
The search volumes for meditation, yoga and mindfulness have increased heavily during the past three months compared to the previous quarter. For example, the searches for books about yoga have increased by as much as 43 percent.

Prepping for a crisis
The interest in apocalyptic fiction has increased, and searches for the word ”prepping” have increased by over 200 percent during the first months of 2022, compared to the quarter before.

Fall asleep with audiobooks
25 percent of all listeners at Nextory are now using the sleep function in the app on a daily basis, and the consumption of sleep stories has increased rapidly during the past year.

Here you can download the entire report.

About the report: “The Next Book Report” is based on unique data from hundreds of thousands of users in Nextory's Nordic markets. The data for Q1 refers to the period 1 January to 31 March 2022 and comparisons were made against the period 1 October to 31 December 2021.
