NGK Makes Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders List for Three Years in a Row

NGK INSULATORS, LTD. (hereinafter “NGK”) has been selected for the Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders list jointly compiled by the Financial Times (U.K.) and Statista, a German research firm. NGK has achieved a high ranking on this list for three years in a row.

The Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders list selects companies in the Asia-Pacific region that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In this fiscal year’s survey, 350 companies were selected for the list based on the reduction rate of their GHG emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2)*1 relative to revenue from 2018 to 2023, with Scope 3*1 emissions disclosures and indicators such as the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative*2 also taken into consideration.

The NGK Group has set forth the goal of realizing net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 under the NGK Group Environmental Vision formulated in April 2021. To realize this goal, the Group has established the Carbon Neutrality Strategic Roadmap comprising four strategies: developing and providing carbon neutrality-related products/services; enhancing energy-saving activities; switching to hydrogen and other carbon-free fuels for ceramic firing and developing CO2 recovery technologies; and expanding the use of renewable energy. Through these initiatives, the Group is working to reduce CO₂ emissions.

With its proprietary ceramics technologies as a foundation, NGK will contribute to the attainment of a sustainable society as a company that promotes the future of energy, global environmental protection, and industrial development.

*1
Scope 1: Direct emissions of greenhouse gases by the reporting company (generated from industrial processes or the burning of fuel)
Scope 2: Indirect emissions of greenhouse gases by the reporting company resulting from the use of electricity, steam, or heat purchased from other companies
Scope 3: All other indirect emissions of greenhouse gases (not included in Scope 1 or 2) that occur in the reporting company’s value chain

*2
An international initiative that works with companies to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets based on scientific evidence that meet the level required by the Paris Agreement toward the target of keeping the global increase in average temperatures due to climate change to within 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels. The SBTi was jointly established in 2015 by four organizations: the CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
