The science broker - building bridges cross disciplines

Akvaplan-niva welcomes Charlotte Teresa Weber who started working  at Akvaplan-niva  in Tromsø in October this year. Charlotte was born and raised in southern Germany in the Bavarian capital Munich and studied for her B.Sc. in Biology at the University of Regensburg in Germany. After that, she went on to work and study across Europe and beyond, from Puerto Rico in the Caribbean to Portugal, Ireland, and Denmark. During this journey Charlotte gained her Erasmus Mundus M.Sc. in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, along a vast amount of research and cultural experiences.

In the search for colder climates and more exotic places to explore, Charlotte went up North to Tromsø for her Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD in Marine Resource Management. Her PhD project, working with the complexity of understanding and managing socio-ecological systems, allowed her to explore unknown research fields and approaches.

This took her on an interdisciplinary path, where she had to blend and merge concepts, methods and data from both the social and the natural sciences. To continue her interdisciplinary work, Charlotte joined the large EU H2020-funded project ClimeFish, where she worked with adaptation planning under climate change for fisheries and aquaculture. This project gave her not only insights into the world of climate change research, but also opened her eyes for co-creation approaches together with stakeholders.

"I am still very passionate about mixing disciplines and stakeholders to address complex problems" says Charlotte. She goes on stating that working for Akvaplan-niva she wants to bring different scientists, researchers, and stakeholders together to understand and tackle societal and environmental challenges.
