Oda Systems marks industry milestone by clearing 300 UPH in grocery fulfillment efficiency
Oda Systems has set a new global benchmark in online grocery logistics, achieving 300 units per hour (UPH) in its Norwegian fulfillment center. This makes Oda’s proprietary automation and software solution the most efficient grocery fulfillment system in the world.
The record was achieved at Oda’s fulfillment center in Lier, Norway and represents the average of a full week of operations, across all fulfillment processes. UPH measures how many individual grocery items are processed per labour hour in a fulfilment center - from inbound to picking, packing and dispatch. Surpassing 300 UPG means Oda Systems’ technology and operating model now process more than 300 items per labour hour, a level of productivity rarely seen in the industry.
“Clearing the 300 UPH mark is a milestone - not just for us, but for online groceries in general,” says Isabelle Baumann, Chief of Oda Systems. “It shows that world-class efficiency doesn’t depend on heavy robotics or ‘over-engineering’. At Oda, we have achieved this through a combination of smart software, precise process design, standardized hardware, and an operations team that improves every single day. Simplicity, when done right, can outperform complexity,” she notes.
Built specifically for grocery
Unlike general-purpose warehouse systems, Oda Systems is built for the unique challenges of grocery retail - from different temperatures to short shelf lives and complex product assortments. Every component is designed to work as part of the integrated system, orchestrated by advanced software built specifically for the complexity of online grocery retail.
The design allows Oda to achieve efficiency levels previously thought impossible, enabling precise forecasting, near-zero waste, and profitable operations at scale - even in markets with high labour costs and dispersed populations like Norway.
“Our ambition has always been to make online grocery both sustainable and profitable,” Baumann continues. “By designing a system that connects every part of the value chain — from supplier to doorstep — we’ve shown that technology can solve one of retail’s toughest challenges,” she says.
