THE PREATURES ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM!
‘BLUE PLANET EYES’ OUT FEBRUARY 23RD
The Preatures have announced that their highly-anticipated debut album Blue Planet Eyes will be released internationally on February 23rd.
With two acclaimed EPs to their name, the band found time amid their intense 2014 touring schedule to record their long-awaited LP, alongside producer Jim Eno (best known as the drummer of Texan rockers Spoon). The recording began in Jim’s Public Hi Fi studio in Austin, Texas and was wrapped up at the band’s own Doldrums Studio in Surry Hills, with lead guitarist Jack Moffitt co-producing the record.
Blue Planet Eyes not only lives up to its bold aspirations, it blows them away. As addictive as it is ambitious, it takes the promise of ‘Is This How You Feel?’ and projects it widescreen, popping with delicious grooves, hip-hugging basslines and choruses that just won't quit. After its Australian release in September 2014, the album went on to scoop GQ’s Australian Album of the Year and was also nominated for Triple J’s Australian Album of the Year.
Following on from supporting The Rolling Stones last year, the band will be hitting the road again in February and March 2015, for an extensive European Tour. Playing 15 dates, the band will play shows in France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and the UK.
‘Is This How You Feel’ catapulted the Sydney five-piece onto the world stage this past year, and saw the band quickly become Australia’s freshest musical export with performances at Glastonbury, Coachella, Bonnaroo and the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. The single clocked in at #9 on Australia’s most influential music poll, the ‘triple j Hottest 100’.
The album embraces a multitude of moods and sounds, ranging from of the sultry swagger of ‘Whatever You Want’ to the juicy licks of 'Ordinary' and the hedonism of ‘Rock And Roll Rave’. It’s an exhilarating ride through straight-up rock ‘n’ roll and soul. And yet, at the centre of it all beats a brash, joyous pop heart.
“I really wanted to explore pop writing - that's the over-arching theme," explains frontwoman Izzi Manfredi. "I never thought I would be writing pop music - I don’t think any of us did - but the more I got into it, the more I love it. I just wanted to figure out how I could make people feel the most in the least amount of time."
Short, sharp and punchy, Blue Planet Eyes shows a band boldly evolving and revelling in their new-found freedom and vitality.
