City, fjord and mountain in 5 days

Why not combine beautiful Bergen with a skiing adventure and a cruise in one of the world’s most picturesque fjords? Here are the tips you need for a five day trip to Bergen and the valleys beyond.

Day 1: Tour of Bergen

First stop: Fløibanen funicular. From the city mountain of Fløyen you are treated to amazing views over beautiful Bergen and the coastal landscape.

Afterwards, you really only need your own two feet and comfortable walking shoes, as the different sights and experiences are to be found around town.

Bryggen in Bergen is one of eight places in Norway listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. For families with children, a stop at the Aquarium and VilVite science center is a must-do!

Day 2 and 3: Winter wonderland in Voss

From Bergen it takes approx. one hour by train to reach Voss - Norway’s prime destination for extreme sports and a haven for those who love snow and skiing. Voss has two ski centers, one of which is Myrkdalen with trails for all levels and ages.

If you’d like to do something other than skiing, just take the gondola from the train station in Voss up the mountain and go for a husky ride, see the starry night with snowshoes on your feet, go luging, fishing and much more.

You can also fly just like Superman in the wind tunnel at Voss Vind, which gives you a feeling of parachuting without the parachute.

Day 4: Fjord cruise to Flåm

From Voss it is a short trip to Gudvangen, where you can journey through the Viking village of Njardarheimr and live and eat like a viking.

Afterwards, hop on a fjord cruise through the spectacular Nærøyfjorden, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. The final destination of the cruise is Flåm, in the middle of Aurlandsfjorden. Here you can enjoy a nice dinner and spend the night at the venerable Fretheim Hotel.

Day 5: The spectacular Flåmsbana

The train ride from Flåm to Myrdal up in the mountains is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular train rides in the world.

Flåmsbana is 20 kilometres long, goes uphill through steep hills and amazing nature and through 20 tunnels before reaching Myrdal station at the Bergen Railway. From here, trains run to both Oslo and Bergen.
