Nordlo’s datacenter certified with global sustainability label: Fossil Free Data

Nordlo’s datacenter in Lycksele, Sweden (previously Acon) has been certified with the Fossil Free Data label. This marks the first certification in northern Sweden and demonstrates Nordlo’s efforts for a sustainable and green datacenter.

As consumers shift their lifestyles toward environmentally friendly products and put pressure on companies, many are beginning to realize that their data has a CO2 footprint. And as they do, demand increases rapidly for sustainable data solutions. The Fossil Free Data label represents successful sustainability efforts for datacenters that meet strict energy efficient measures.

The certification acknowledges that customers' systems and data are managed in a sustainable manner. Nordlo, who houses its datacenter in a mountain, meets theses strict requirements to be energy efficient, has low carbon dioxide emissions and uses 100 percent renewable electricity in its datacenter.

“Creating conditions for sustainable development is important not only for us, but for our customers and our society. This certification shows that we are doing the right thing by building our datacenter in an energy efficient manner and constantly striving for climate efficient operations,” says Mattias Sundling, business area manager at Nordlo.

The purpose of the label is to set a new transparent standard for sustainable datacenters and thus reducing the global carbon footprint of data. This will also enable a green development in the datacenter sector.

“We are delighted to welcome Nordlo to Fossil Free Data. As the European Comission implements the European Green Deal as a blueprint for Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, Sweden with its large share of renewable energy, is in an excellent position for sustainable datacenters and Nordlo is a great ambassador to showcase this,” says Christoffer Svanberg, CEO at Node Pole.
