Nordland, Norway Makes National Geographic's 'Cool List' for 2024

Northern Norway Tourism Board is thrilled to announce that Nordland has been featured on National Geographic Traveler’s prestigious ‘Cool List’ for 2024. This recognition is a testament to the region's stunning natural landscapes and its commitment to cultural enrichment.

National Geographic's annual 'Cool List' features destinations that are poised to captivate travellers seeking authentic and transformative experiences. Nordland's inclusion in this list underscores the region's growing reputation as a must-visit destination for adventurous explorers and nature enthusiasts.

One of the standout features that caught National Geographic's attention is Nordland's commitment to sustainable tourism practices. The region places a strong emphasis on responsible travel, conservation efforts, and eco-friendly accommodations. Travellers can explore this stunning part of Norway while minimising their ecological footprint.

– We are immensely proud of Nordland's inclusion in National Geographic's 'Cool List' for 2024. This recognition is a testament to the beauty and authenticity that Nordland offers to travellers. Making it on a list like this will without doubt make Nordland and the region an even more attractive destination, Siw Sandvik, PR & Communications Manager at Northern Norway Tourism Board states.

A Unique Blend of Nature and Culture on the Global Stage
Besides its breathtaking natural scenery, the Nordland region boasts Bodø as its centrepiece, the chosen host city for a visionary cultural initiative known as Bodø 2024. This groundbreaking project is committed to celebrating and enriching the area's vibrant cultural legacy by offering a wide array of events and endeavours. Notably, Bodø is set to become the inaugural European Capital of Culture north of the Arctic Circle.

Apart from Nordland, the list featured numerous European destinations, including the enchanting Albanian Alps, vibrant Belfast in Northern Ireland, and the ancient ruins of Pompeii in Italy. Furthermore, broader tourism attractions such as whiskey in Wales, exploring Europe by train, and experiencing the euros in Germany received recognition.

– This prestigious acknowledgment places us in the company of these incredible destinations and experiences, and it serves as a resounding affirmation of our region's distinctive fusion of natural splendour and cultural abundance. We look forward to welcoming travellers from around the world who are seeking authentic, transformative experiences in our remarkable corner of the globe, Sandvik concludes.
