Press release -

Nysnø and Dovetail invest in tech company Metizoft

Stavanger, 22 August 2023

The Norwegian company Metizoft is a leading provider of software to the global maritime industry. Now Nysnø Climate Investments and Dovetail invest 160 million Norwegian kroner to back the company’s ambitious plans for growth on climate solutions and life cycle analysis.

– New solutions for the maritime industry are crucial to reduce emissions globally. Metizoft enables ship owners to identify climate actions, avoid environmental harm and ensure responsible operations. Metizoft has a unique starting point, ambitious team, and new solutions that we look forward to scaling globally, says Joe Eliston, Investment Director at Nysnø.

Reducing emissions at a higher pace

Maritime industry accounts for 3 % of the world’s total emissions, and 14% of EU`s total emissions from the transport sector. The industry is now facing new measures to reduce them. The International Maritime Organization IMO has recently adopted a new target to achieve net-zero emissions from shipping within 2050. This sets higher demands for greenhouse gas reduction measures in the industry, and with a strong maritime expertise, Norway holds a unique position to develop and deliver climate solutions.

Based in Herøy, Norway, Metizoft ensures that thousands of ships comply with requirements for chemicals and hazardous materials on-board. The company is seeing increased customer demand for ESG solutions and reduced emissions. Metizoft is expanding from a strong position to meet customer demand – such as life cycle analysis (LCA) to identify key areas for improvement during a ship’s life cycle.

– From the start we identified business opportunities from environmental regulations in the maritime industry, and have built Metizoft step by step. Today we are proud of our global presence in the maritime industry, says founder and CEO Gry Cecilie Sydhagen.

Growing global demand

With Dovetail leading the investment - backed by Ferd Impact Investing and Skeie Technology - specialist expertise in finance, strategy, technology, and design is combined at an international level. Metizoft is well positioned to increase their growth with a global customer base and offices in Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Dovetail and Nysnø will contribute to accelerated growth by bringing in their competences to achieve the company’s ambitions.

– Metizoft has spotted opportunities in the maritime industry and has a great position to act on the increased activity on sustainability. We look forward to contributing to the next chapter of their journey, says Eirik Dahle, Managing Partner at Dovetail.

– The global potential for the problems we help solve is huge, and with new investors on board we can accelerate the speed of delivering these solutions to our customers, says Sydhagen.
