Press release -

Nysnø invests in Astanor’s first venture fund for sustainable food systems

Astanor Ventures is a leading European investor in food, agriculture, and ocean technologies. Their Good Harvest Ventures I is the largest of its kind in Europe and invests in disruptive technologies for a better global food system.

New research published this week in Nature Food reveals that a third of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the food system. Reversing this trend requires big changes in the way we produce, distribute and consume food.

Astanor Ventures invests in companies that contribute to a more sustainable food system making it more nourishing, regenerative, and ultra-fresh. The global fund focuses on Europe and has defined Norway as a strategic source of deal flow for aquaculture and ocean technologies.

– We need to change our approach to food to feed a growing population and at the same time reach the climate goals. Astanor Ventures invests in disruptive technologies to achieve this by collaborating with chefs and other thought leaders to make innovation a part of our food culture, says Siri Kalvig, CEO at Nysnø Climate Investments (Nysnø).

Astanor has a team of investment professionals and advisors, including farming experts, microbiologists, and chefs. The Norwegian gourmet chef Christopher Haatuft is one of the advisors actively scouting for investment opportunities. Haatuft is especially enthusiastic about sustainable food from the ocean and is known for his innovative dishes and fresh take on ingredients.

– We have fantastic food resources in Norway, especially from the sea. Norway leads the way in so many areas that we should be showcased internationally. Together with Nysnø, I look forward to strengthening our position in the global food arena, says Christopher Haatuft.

Founder and partner at Astanor, Eric Archambeau, sees a revolution in food, and that start-ups, corporates, consumers, and investors are increasingly becoming aware of the challenges associated with the global food system.

- We are on a quest for sustainable deliciousness, and we do this by combining our expertise in food and technology with venture capital, says Eric Archambeau.

By investing in Astanor’s Good Harvest Ventures I fund, Nysnø will bring experienced venture capital to companies solving for a more sustainable food system, and thus strengthening the Norwegian ecosystem for food, agriculture, and ocean investments.

Nysnø invest EUR 15 million, bringing the total assets under management to EUR 234 million.
