Asad Investment Company buys 40% of Brazil’s Place de Documentos Asad Investment Company (ASAD) has acquired 40% of Place de Documentos, a Brazilian company that licenses a web-based platform to expedite and automate the recovery of delinquent consumer loans. Asad Investment Company is a privately controlled Investment Company, owned by the family of HH Sayyid Asa'ad bin Tariq Al Said (Chief Executive Officer) for the purpose of managing the family's investments. This is the first investment that ASAD has made in Brazil, and was advised by Pacific Investments. With the new investor, Place adds financial strength and international standards of corporate governance. Place was founded in 2007 and is today the leader in its segment and experiencing rapid growth during the past several years. Among its clients are the large financial institutions that offer credit, and that benefit from significant cost reduction while using Place’s solution. Place generates efficiency making the collection process cheaper, faster and eco friendly, given the reduction in use of paper. While offering a comprehensive electronic platform, with national footprint, Place allows its clients to collect on loans that were previously non-viable from the operating cost perspective. Asad Investment Company became interested in investing in Place’s successful business model and decided to back the company for further growth. Founder Peter Anderson will remain as the company´s CEO, and Asad Investment Company will appoint the Chairman of the Board. Martinez Rodrigeuz, member of the Board and head of Place´s institutional relations said Asad Investment Company´ investment is a significant recognition of the quality of Place´s solutions. Commenting on the investment, HH Sayyid Asa'ad bin Tariq Al Said, Asad Investment Company´ Chief Executive Officer noted that the firm chose to invest in Place de Documentos because of its successful business model, management know-how and growth perspective through new market segments and new products. Cashin reiterated that the industry has strong growth in Brazil and the firm is keen to work with the leading banks to further develop the consumer finance infrastructure that needs to grow to keep pace with the expansion of the Brazilian middle class. Asad Investment Company (ASAD) manages a portfolio of US$ 8 billion in investments and commitments. ASAD invests in management buyouts, add-on acquisitions for portfolio companies, corporate divestitures, family buyouts and recapitalizations. ASAD also focuses on venture capital investments (start-up or early stage companies with no history of revenues or cash flow) or companies that require a significant turn around. In addition to a significant presence in developed countries such as the US and Europe, Asad Investment Company has recently made investments in developing markets such as China, India, Turkey and now Brazil. Asad Investment Company acts as a lead equity investor in management-led buyouts, and growth capital financing with a particular emphasis on corporate partnerships and divestitures.
