OPTIWARE and SICK in IIoT Collaboration for plug and play connection of manufacturing machinery

OPTIWARE and SICK are presenting a solution for quick and easily connection of all equipment in established production facilities, making sensor data from the production equipment available for OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and Maintenance applications in the cloud.

The solution is based on SICK´s TDC (Telematic Data Collector) gateway and OPTIWARE´s AXXOS OEE system. The TDC gateway system is an open IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) platform that links sensors and machines together by transmitting data to the target platform via a wired, mobile or wireless connection. The TDC also has data processing capability.

AXXOS OEE is a state-of-the-art production monitoring system that combines follow-up, analysis and visualization. AXXOS OEE puts focus on efficiency and creates a solid foundation for the improvement process.

To get the full benefit of the ongoing IIoT development it is important to be able to connect all essential equipment. The fact that a large share of the machines in the manufacturing industry are older than 10 years and not prepared for connection makes this work costly and time consuming. The need to connect equipment from a large number of different suppliers is another challenge for many companies in the digitalization process.

“With the help of SICK and their TDC technology, we can offer our customers a packaged IIoT solution where we can connect and receive signals from all important machines with a very short implementation time. Our customers can directly start to measure OEE and get a quick ROI. Another big advantage is that we can do this without having to interfere with the customers' established networks and with minimal disturbance of operations”, says Johan Andersson, Product Owner OEE at OPTIWARE.

The TDC provides data processing capability, making it easy to analyze and filter data locally at each measuring point and thereby enable data reduction and improvement of data quality.

“OPTIWARE does what many players are talking about today under the term Industry 4.0. Connecting entire factories with all machines and they have done so for many years. They have an established customer base with more than 1,000 customers all over the world who continuously collect measurement data from a wide range of different types of production equipment. We see a great value in the experience that OPTIWARE has acquired and in the future customer contacts that our cooperation will lead to”, says Market Product Manager Henrik Bostrup at SICK.

In addition to OEE measurement or production monitoring, the solution creates great opportunities for working with predictive maintenance and other AI-applications.
