OPTIWARE Delivers Smart Production Optimisation System to Moelven
Moelven Industrier ASA, one of Europe’s largest saw mill groups with 46 plants, is now making a major boost in their maintenance process. As a part of a large digitalisation project, Moelven has entered into an agreement with OPTIWARE regarding the installation of API PRO EAM as the common maintenance system for all units in the Group.
“We want to run the most economically sound and sustainable operation. We were therefore looking for a new digital maintenance system that allows for data analysis. Our goal is to predict maintenance needs and save costs across the group”, says IT Director Even Rognan Lutnæs in Moelven.
“We are confident that this will lead to lower maintenance costs in the long term, less unexpected stops and higher efficiency in our units. Then we save money and can be more productive”, Lutnæs continues.
The Moelven Group has had different systems for maintenance, but by selecting one common system that applies throughout the group, Moelven can benefit from the large amounts of data in a completely new way.
“This is Big Data and Industry 4.0 in practice and it will lead to economies of scale. We perform many similar operations across our different units in Norway and Sweden. The aim for the new maintenance system is to be able to analyse and get the earliest possible insight about needed maintenance”, explains Lutnæs.
OPTIWARE already delivers the production monitoring system AXXOS OEE to Moelven’s production units. The new complete solution supplied by OPTIWARE is part of Moelven’s commitment to “The smart digital sawmill”, where machine learning and analysis of big data are the core of the project.

With this solution, which includes both the OEE system and the maintenance system, Moelven will be able to create effective maintenance processes and benefit from real production data as the basis for predictive maintenance”, says Patrik Haldén, Director EAM Nordics, OPTIWARE.
