PEMA makes appointments to its environment and technology committees

The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) has appointed a new Chair and Vice Chairs to its environment and technology committees, two of the three PEMA bodies that drive the association’s work in providing independent information about key issues to the global ports and shipping industries.

Claus Burger – Global Market Manager, Container Handling at Conductix Wampfler, a manufacturer of energy and data transmission systems for mobile equipment and machinery – has been selected as the new Chair of the PEMA Environment Committee (EVC). Lorène Grandider – Marketing Manager at global energy management specialist Schneider Electric’s shore power division – has been made the EVC’s Vice Chair.

“Port authorities, shipping lines and equipment makers are taking increasingly substantive steps to improve environmental performance, and I’m delighted to support PEMA’s role in these vital efforts,” says Burger.

“By working together and pooling our expertise, the ports and terminals sector has the chance to make genuine contributions to sustainability, and I’m thrilled to be part of this process that PEMA helps make possible,” adds Grandider.

The EVC provides information on the development and application of technologies that reduce the environmental impact of the ports and terminal industries.

EVC members are drawn from a broad cross-section of equipment manufacturers and technology companies. The EVC serves as a platform for suppliers to exchange views and experiences, share best practice and build long-term relationships with key stakeholders.

In another recent appointment made by PEMA, Kari Rintanen of Finland-based global equipment manufacturer, Konecranes, has been appointed as Vice Chair of PEMA’s Technology Committee.

“I’m delighted to take on this responsibility in which I look forward to furthering the invaluable work of the association,” says Rintanen.

The Technology Committee seeks to increase awareness and understanding of technological development in ports and terminals. It provides information on the development, adoption and impact of technologies in ports and terminals, and promotes innovation, thought leadership and best practice in the sector. The body also commissions surveys on the adoption of technologies worldwide and participates in the development of industry guidelines and standards.

PEMA would like to thank the previous holders of these positions and their outstanding contribution to the work of the association, which has in part helped the body expand its membership rapidly in recent years.

The association also has a Safety Committee, but no changes to the Chair or Vice Chair roles of the committee have been made recently.
