BLOG POST: On the agenda: Urban farming and sustainable city planning

Urban farming and sustainable city planning are really high on the agenda these days. During the upcoming weeks we are looking forward to participating in several interesting events within urban faming and sustainable city planning. I'm Sepehr Mousavi, Sustainability Strategist at Plantagon. This week I'm sharing my thoughts on a few upcoming and very interesting seminars within the field. Welcome to follow me in this forum!

Sustainable food production in cities

The first event is a seminar arranged by Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) in partnership with Plantagon and OpenLab taking place at Stockholm Royal Institute of Technology’s Dome of Visions on May 10th. On May 10th, the national standardization committee, chaired by Plantagon, will be having a stakeholder’s meeting with more than 50 professional participants from academia, public and private sector to discuss a future roadmap of standardization work for sustainable urban food production and consumption. I will hold a keynote under the day and I’m looking forward to hearing some top-notch discussions under the different themes that we have planned.

EuroEnviro 2016

The second event is on the May 12th, when Plantagon will be represented at EuroEnviro 2016 in Copenhagen, Denmark. EuroEnviro is a 21 year-old initiative which brings sustainability issues on the agenda and has taken place in 19 European countries by now. On May 12th and under the theme of "The Sprouting City", I will have an inspirational speech on feeding the cities for communicating Plantagon’s vision on how urban agriculture could influence sustainable city planning and lead to community development.

Seeds & Chips 2016

Last but not least, Plantagon has been invited to being a speaker and also exhibiting at the "Seeds & Chips Summit" in Milan, Italy on May 13-14th. Seeds and Chips is an international summit dedicated to food innovations from farm to fork, and where food and technology meet. Our movies on the Linköping Project will be aired for the public and I will be partaking on a panel discussion on the 13th under challenging theme ‘’Farmer 4.0’’. On the main day of the summit on May 14th, will be speaking on how innovation could be implemented within holistic, systemic and agroecological frameworks to create solutions for planning, developing and feeding future cities.

Given the very interesting speaker list, I am looking forward to hearing new thoughts and get inspired on new horizons of solving the global food security challenge by the help of innovative solutions and thinking outside the box.

All the best,

Sepehr Mousavi

  • BLOG POST: Well, it happened! No veggies on the shelves!

As Southern Europe recently was struck by snowstorms we suddenly came to realize this had impact on our daily lives. Suddenly the vegetable shelves were empty and not a single salad was to be found in stores throughout Sweden. This clearly shows the fragility of our current food system, heavily relying on imports. And the inevitable question is: How resilient is our food system in a crisis?
