Swedish Technology Solves Food Crisis in China?

SHANGHAI, November,  2013 - During a ceremony at The House of Roosevelt in Shanghai, Tim Tse, CEO of Roosevelt China Investments Corporation, and Hans Hassle, CEO of Plantagon International AB from Sweden, signed an MOU to start commercial cooperation between Roosevelt and Plantagon - to become the main gate for sustainable urban agriculture projects in China.

The two partnering companies aim to advance feasible solutions for the commercial development of urban agriculture in China. Innovation, food safety and environmental, social and economic sustainability bind the two parties together in this work. The partnership opens up for potential ownership of Plantagon Intellectual Property Rights for China to Roosevelt China Investments Corporation.

Roosevelt China Investments Corporation CEO Tim Tse says: “If we are going to succeed in creating a sustainable future for China, innovators and entrepreneurs must find transformative solutions. Creating food systems for the city, that produces absolutely clean food that the consumer knows is safe, is such a solution and therefore something that Roosevelt China Investments Corporation believes in, supports and wants to be part of.”

Plantagon CEO Hans Hassle continues: “Food security and food safety are huge challenges for the future. By the time we are 9 billion people, 80% of the world population will live in cities, and this urban sprawl means that food transportation and logistic systems will be strained. Also, in order to feed so many people in a sustainable way we must reduce the use of water, energy and land. This can be done with urban agriculture. To make this happen in China is an important step for the whole world.”

The partnership further connects Roosevelt China Investments Corporation with the ongoing work at the Tongji – Plantagon Research Center, established earlier this year at Tongji University. The center works in alliance with the Modern Agricultural Science & Engineering Institute and the Design Institute at Tongji to transfer and develop knowledge regarding innovative design related to modern urban agriculture and to conduct research on business model development of modern urban agriculture. The research focuses on  town-planning issues; integration of  urban agriculture into local neighborhoods, considering logistic systems, energy efficiency, environmental friendliness and consumer interests.
