Nirkko heads for the Summer Olympics

The port of Helsinki continues to sponsor Olympic sailor Tapio Nirkko on his way to the sporting highlight of the year, the Summer Olympics in London in August. Nirkko, who competes in the Finn dinghy category, came 12^th in the World Championships last year, thus achieving for Finland a spot at the Summer Olympic Games in London.

“Preparations for the Olympic year have gone smoothly. The fact that Finland has secured a spot at the Games does not mean a more relaxed approach to the Olympic year, quite the contrary. The tempo at training camps and competitions abroad will be tight from January until August, and there will be a lot of days on the road. My practice partners are hard as rock, and I have excellent opportunities for improvement. I am working with an Olympic medal in mind,” Nirkko promises.
