New festival - Glamping to the tunes of opera

New festival: Glamping to the tunes of opera

For the first time this August, Mimi Goes Glamping kicks off. A cooperation between Bergen National Opera and Åmot Operafarm, the new festival combines music, outdoor activities like yoga and fly fishing, and locally produced gourmet food, all in scenic surroundings just outside Bergen.

The festival takes place 21-23 August, at Åmot Operafarm around three hours north of Bergen, in the midst of the fjords. Set in a stunning landscape, it aims to showcase opera tunes with a festival twist, if not exactly like Glastonbury. Rachel Nicholls, whom is currently singing her first Isolde at Longborough, and Andrew Slater are starring in the main piece The Diva, about couples who murder each other in the course of opera i.e. Otello and Macbeth.

Fancy Puccini yoga?

While music is at the centre stage, visitors can choose among activities that are to greater or lesser extent linked to opera, such as yoga to the tunes of Puccini, boat trip with arias on the fjord, forest hiking, kayak courses, and baking classes with the top Norwegian pastry chef Havard Flatland, accompanied with songs about food and drink, called Tea Songs. For eager singers in the making, Slater will lead a masterclass for amateurs, including local choral singers culminating in all participants learning the Halleluja Chorus.
