QNET supports Selangor hockey

QNET, a direct-selling company, has become the title sponsor of the Selangor Hockey League for the new season starting on Sept 19.

Selangor Hockey Association (SHA) deputy president Datuk S. Sivasundram said they were grateful to QNET for coming forward to support the SHL.

“We welcome QNET on board as the title sponsor. The QNET-SHL will have 34 teams. For the first time we have the women’s division. The other three divisions are Division One, Division Two and Boys.

“The league will be for a duration of three months and we expect the season to be an exciting and interesting one,’’ said Sivasundram.

In Division One, there are eight teams and 13 teams in Division Two divided into two groups.

The champions in Division One will receive RM1,500 while the Division Two champions will get RM1,000. The top team in the women’s category and boys’ category will receive RM1,000 and RM750.

The top five teams from Division One and top three from Division Two will qualify for the knock out competition for the overall title. The overall champions will receive the QNET Chellenge Trophy and RM3,000 cash.

QNET, the flagship subsidiary of the QI Group of Companies, are looking at playing an active role in the promotion and development of hockey.

QI Groups strategic director Kuna Senathirajah said they were delighted to partner SHA in the development of hockey in the state.

“The league will be an excellent platform to unearth new talents. It will also encourage youngsters in the state to be active in the game after they leave school. The introduction of the women’s division is also encouraging,’’ said Kuna.

SHA competition chairman S. Ganesh said the league would be played at four venues and most of the matches were on weekends.

The venues are Tun Razak Stadium in Jalan Duta, National Hockey Stadium One and Two in Bukit Jalil and Education Ministry Hockey Stadium in Jalan Pantai.

“The league offers a total cash purse of RM16,000 and the number of matches are 115. We have drawn up the competition schedule. We are looking at completing the season during the first week of November,’’ said Ganesh.
