Press release -

Region Skåne joins ExDIN, a project for more effective diagnostics.

ExDIN, a VINNOVA funded project, is further reinforced when Region Skåne joins the project. Region Skåne will be involved in the part of the project focusing on collaboration in networks over organizational boundaries in the area of pathology.

The VINNOVA funded project ExDIN, Exchange of Diagnostic Images in Networks, creates a national collaboration platform giving organizations possibility to reach diagnostic expertise on a regional, national and international level. In the web based platform collaboration can take place in networks over organizational boundaries with support for reimbursement and in compliance with applicable patient data laws. ExDIN is focusing on network collaboration within pathology, echocardiography and multidisciplinary team meetings (in addition to the in RxEye already existing radiology functionality). This collaboration reinforces local competence, as well as develops skills and increases quality. The goal is to give patients and health care the security of always reaching diagnostic expertise regionally, nationally and internationally.

- Joining ExDIN creates the possibilities for Skåne to start collaborating with other regions within pathology in an effective way. Together we can increase the quality and reduce response times by making expertise available for distance diagnostics, says Lena Luts, Operations Manager Klinisk patologi, Labmedicin.

The project is now in an intense period where network collaboration is being tested between the County Council of Blekinge and Stockholm County Council. Region Skåne will take part in the project as a reference group. There are already today requests for collaboration between the three County Councils of Blekinge, Stockholm and Skåne. The goal is to reduce waiting times for patients while simultaneously increasing quality of care and sharing expert knowledge.

- We are very happy that Region Skåne joins ExDIN. Region Skåne brings a lot of expertise to the project, while providing greater spread of the results from ExDIN. We see great opportunities for greater collaboration across organizational boundaries within pathology both within the project and afterwards, says Eva-Lena Engman, Program Manager, ExDIN.

ExDIN started up in 2012 and will be completed during 2014. The project consortium consists of County Council of Blekinge, Stockholm County Council with the Region Cancer Center Stockholm Gotland, Royal Institute of Technology, Blekinge Institute of Technology and RxEye. ExDIN is organizing a conference in May where the project results will be presented.
