The world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature to be announced on April 2

Welcome to cover the 17th announcement of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA). The Swedish award amounts to EUR 570 000 and is presented annually in honour of the author Astrid Lindgren. On Tuesday, April 2, the ALMA jury in Sweden will name the 2019 laureate.

The world’s largest award (EUR 440 000) for children's and young adult literature to be announced on March 31

Welcome to the 18th announcement of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA). The award amounts to 5 million SEK (approx. 440 000 EUR) making it the largest international children’s and young adult literature award in the world. On Tuesday, March 31 at 12:50 pm, the ALMA jury will announce the 2020 laureate live from Astrid Lindgren’s home on Dalagatan 46 in Stockholm.

Children have the right to great stories

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. With a prize of five million Swedish kronor, it is the largest award of its kind. Administrated by the Swedish Arts Council.
