The nominees for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2012 will be revealed on October 13th

During the Frankfurt Book Fair, the nominated candidates for the 2012 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award will be announced. Larry Lempert, Chairman of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award jury, will reveal the candidates on October 13th at 17:10 hours.

To mark the announcement the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award give a presentation of the work of the Australian illustrator Shaun Tan, the 2011 Award Recipient, followed by a reception.

16.35          The Work and Worlds of Shaun Tan

Journalist Andreas Platthaus from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung will discuss the 2011 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award recipient, Shaun Tan, with Ralf Keiser, Carlsen Verlag and Dr. Christiane Raabe, International Youth Library.

17.00          The 2012 announcement and beyond

Rebecka Svensén, Director of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, on the upcoming events including the announcement of the winner and the 2012 award ceremony.

17.10          Presentation of the 2012 nominees

Larry Lempert, Chairman of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award jury, reveals the candidates for the 2012 award.

The event is organized by the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in co-operation with the Frankfurt Book Fair.

The list of the nominated candidates will be published on www.alma.se on October 13th.

The winner or winners of the 2012 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award will be announced on March 20, 13:00 CET. The announcement will be held at the birthplace of Astrid Lindgren in Vimmerby, Sweden. The announcement will be broadcast live to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and online at www.alma.se.

Children have the right to great stories

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. With a prize of five million Swedish kronor, it is the largest award of its kind. Administrated by the Swedish Arts Council.
