This year's recipient visits the International Youth Library in Munich

On May 25th the recipient of The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2011, Shaun Tan, will give a lecture at the International Youth Library, the largest library in the world of children’s and young adult literature. During the visit Shaun Tan will also meet the Swedish Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.

Every year, the recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award visits the International Youth Library in Munich during the award week. This year’s recipient, the Australian illustrator and author Shaun Tan, will give a lecture on May 25th entitled Narrative images.

The International Youth Library has as a result of the collaboration with the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award instituted an annual Astrid Lindgren lecture. These lectures are given by leading personalities in the field of culture and are about literature for children and young adults. This year, the critic and award-winning translator Joachim Kalka opens the 2011 lecture series.

This year, their royal highnesses Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are guests of honour at the International Youth Library. The week following the visit to Munich, 31 May, H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria will present The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award to Shaun Tan at a ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall.

Shaun Tan has been widely acclaimed for his works, e.g. The Arrival and The Lost Thing. For the animated short film based on The Lost Thing, Shaun Tan received an Academy award earlier this year.

Busy Award Week for Shaun Tan

Shaun Tan, the recipient of the 2011 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, will come to Sweden to participate in the award week 21-31 of May. The Australian illustrator and author will visit Vimmerby, München in Germany and Lillehammer in Norway. In Stockholm, Shaun Tan will hold lectures at the House of Culture and the Parliament Library. The grand finale is the award ceremony at the Stockholm Concert

Shaun Tan participates in award week in Sweden

The recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2011, the Australian Shaun Tan, arrives in Stockholm on May 21 to participate in the award week. The award week ends with a ceremony in the Stockholm Concert Hall, where Shaun Tan, the author of inter alia The Arrival, receives the Literature award from H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria. The award amount is 5 million SEK (approx. 750 000 USD).
